About UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Armenia
This route is often called the Vatican of Armenia, and for good reason. In the space of a single half day you can trace the origins of Christian architecture in this country, standing inside churches that have survived for over 1,400 years and a cathedral first founded in 301 AD. We visit two extraordinary early churches, St. Hripsime and St. Gayane, before stepping into Etchmiadzin's Mother Cathedral and treasury, home to relics including the Holy Spear and a fragment of Noah's Ark. We close the day at Zvartnots, a once towering circular cathedral now in ruins, framed perfectly against Mount Ararat.
