Shaki Waterfall, Khndzoresk & Tatev, Syunik Province
Flat $220 for up to 10 guests
About The Wings of Syunik
This tour reaches deep into Syunik, the southernmost region of Armenia, where some of the country's most dramatic landscapes and boldest feats of ancient and modern engineering are waiting. It is a long day, but every hour of driving earns you something extraordinary. We begin at Shaki Waterfall, tumbling 18 metres over a wide basalt cliff and wrapped in local legend, before crossing a 160 metre swinging bridge suspended 63 metres above a canyon to reach the cave city of Khndzoresk, once home to thousands of people living inside hand carved dwellings. From there we ride the Wings of Tatev, the longest reversible aerial tramway in the world, soaring above the Vorotan River Gorge to reach Tatev Monastery, a 9th century clifftop complex that was once one of the great centers of learning in the region. We close the day with a wine tasting in Areni before the long, scenic drive home.
