About Sacred Monasteries & Ancient Wines
This journey carries you across the Ararat Plain and deep into the dramatic canyons of Vayots Dzor, weaving together biblical history, world-renowned archaeology, and centuries of Armenian winemaking into a single unforgettable day. We begin at Khor Virap, standing at the literal foot of Mount Ararat, where Gregory the Illuminator was held in an underground pit before converting Armenia to Christianity in 301 AD. From there we head south into wine country at Areni, home to the world's oldest known winery, before ending the day at Noravank, a 13th century masterpiece framed by towering red cliffs that glow at sunset.
